In
Italian there are other verbs that are used like the verb “piacere”
at
the 3rd
person
and are preceded by indirect pronouns.
The most important are:
BASTARE = to be
enough, to be sufficient
MANCARE = to lack,
to miss
OCCORRERE = to be necessary
SEMBRARE / PARERE = to look, to seem
SERVIRE = to need
Here
are some examples that will help you to understand how to use these
verbs.
- Ti bastano questi soldi per comprare le scarpe? (Is this money enough to buy shoes?)
- Il tempo non mi basta mai. (Time is never enough for me)
- Mi mancano i miei genitori. (I miss my parents)
- Non ti manca il tuo paese? (Don't you miss your country?)
- Quanto tempo ti occorre / ti serve per finire il lavoro? (How much time do you need to finish the job?)
- Questo libro ci sembra molto interessante. (This book looks very interesting to us)
